Owning our Philosophical Roots:
This web site: The Healer Within has this statement as its first sentence: "Complete health is found in the balance of an individual's mental, physical, and spiritual states. " Sound like something from our founder, D.D. and the depths of chiropractic philosophy.
Rather than being something related to chiropractic, this is the title of an on tour science exhibit which travels to various cities demonstrating the core philosophy of osteopathy. This elaborate display has been to numerous locations and the Smithsonian is on its schedule for 2004. Now I ask myself--where could we be as Chiropractors, in making what appears to be a welcomed impact in this country, if we were to come together and own our roots. The public is ready for the philosophy. Are we going to loose them to another profession because we aren't ready?

Osteopathic Manipulations for Ear Infections:
Just in case you were wondering, osteopathic manipulations are now being recommended for children with ear infections. This news was reported on the Today Show to let the world know the efficacy of care. Only problem was they were audacious enough to say that " Osteopathic manipulation is gentler than chiropractic manipulation, focusing on the muscles and ligaments that connect the skull to the spine." 20 years of practice in our community with patients experiencing osteopathic manipulation has taught me that the chiropractic adjustment is much more specific and gentle. Perhaps the Osteopaths are referring to craniosacral care? In that case, I bet there are more DCs and massage therapists doing craniosacral care than osteopaths! In looking on Osteopathic College websites and reviewing their curriculum SMT came up as a "selective" course. One grade higher than an elective, however it does not appear to be a mandatory part of their course of study. Prescribing Drugs is however, and we all know the dangers of that...hmmmm.
