Experimental and Investigational
Some members are receiving denials from Blue Cross, Blue Shield for claims on the care of children with the excuse that chiropractic care for children is "Experimental/ investigational". In light of the errors and continued experimental/ investigational procedures that occur in the medical arena for pregnant women (ultrasound, cyotec, pitocin, absurd & restrictive positions, electro-fetal monitoring, operative devices at birth-- to name a few); and the experimental treatment of children: psycotrophic drugs, abused antibiotics, asthma and allergies meds, and the most experimental of all, vaccinations.. it is prudent to say that Blue Cross has certainly selected a poor choice of words to try and deny chiropractic care.
If you are being harassed by them, please refer to our May - June 2003 Membership newsletter where two of our members: wrote a great response to BC/BS and then received payment for their denied services.
Sad enough that the insurance companies are refusing chiropractic care for children, but labeling it experimental/ investigational is a poor attempt to invalidate chiropractic care. Considering all of the unproven, dangerous treatments covered by insurance companies, their justification seems to be a bit of a stretch.
