First and foremost, I want to thank all of you who responded to our Family Wellness First E-newsletter asking recipients to write a letter to United Healthcare (UHC). In response to their September 2007 Network Bulletin where they stated: "A recent review of the clinical evidence in published peer-reviewed medical literature leads us to further conclude that chiropractic services for treatment of children and adolescents is unproven…" The time you took to write the letters made an impact on UHC's decision. Very shortly after, UHC issued a stay on its biased policy restricting chiropractic care for children. Although the UHC's decision to review this policy may appear to be a victory, it is important to note that the demand for research to substantiate our care is of the utmost importance in their minds. We will be sharing the recent ICPA/ PBRN preliminary data with them. They will want larger numbers. They will be waiting for the final results. The ICPA is the only organization conducting research relevant to your care with children. Your participation in our PBRN research is vital! We need the data from your offices now! Children's Research that is Making a Difference The ICPA formed the largest Practice Based Research Network (PBRN) in the profession. It is the only research addressing care for children and pregnant mothers. Our preliminary findings for children are outstanding and have been accepted for presentation in two research venues so far. Although we have good numbers, we need data entries into the tens of thousands to make the impact we want.
