Any day now you will receive an envelope from us marked "Open Today".
It is inviting you to make the difference in your future rights
to care for children. I am thrilled that as a group, we will be actively
involved in the future of our profession. I am even more excited about
the enthusiasm from those of you who are stepping to the plate on this
urgent issue.
When we first initiated this research project to gather initial data, the
response was great! For our preliminary findings we were able to submit
1,000 cases from doctors and 1,000 reports from parents. Even though
this is the largest amount of data published in our profession
we need data into the tens of thousands.
By now you know that both the insurance companies and the new chiropractic
practice guidelines are saying that there is not enough evidence to
substantiate care for children. This research will show otherwise—and
we need the numbers NOW.
To all who are on board—thanks and we love you! For all of you who realize
the importance of this work— we welcome you. Please respond to the
PBRN mailer you receive or just sign up here: www.icpa4kids.com/research/PBRN/PBRN_Join.htm

Do adjustments help respiratory function?
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to explore the effect of combining
manual therapy with exercise on respiratory function in normal individuals.
CONCLUSIONS: Manual therapy appears to increase the respiratory function of
normal individuals. The potential for this intervention administered
before exercise to permit additional tolerance within the respiratory system
that could allow an extended exercise program than was previously possible
is discussed. Read the abstract here.

US among worst in world for infant death
The United States ranks near the bottom for infant survival rates

placed the United States ahead of only Latvia, and tied with

Organic Foods
Now that many people are choosing organic foods, it appears that the USDA
is feeling a bit threatened, so they are now trying to gain control
of local, organic farming. The USDA is accepting public comments until
December 3 on a new proposed rule that would force small farms growing
green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and lettuce, to put into place
industrial-style sterilization measures that reduce biodiversity and
soil fertility. Visit here to place your vote:

In the wake of the threat to arrest
Maryland parents for not vaccinating their children there has been

FYI: American Academy of Pediatricians Provider Recommendations
when parents refuse vaccines:
The AAP guidelines are listed in the 2006 Red Book of Infectious Diseases—a
manual that almost every pediatrician owns. In the Book, the AAP suggests:
- A non-judgmental approach is best. Listen carefully and respectfully
to the parent’s concerns.
- Inform the parents of the risks and benefits of each vaccine as
well as the risks of each disease.
- For parents who are concerned about multiple vaccines at one visit,
develop a schedule that spreads the vaccines out.
- Continued refusal to vaccinate after adequate discussion should
be respected (unless the child is at significant risk of serious
harm during an epidemic).
- In general, pediatricians should avoid dismissing patients from
their practice solely because of refusal to vaccinate.
But parents who have concerns and extra questions about vaccines need
to understand the best way to talk to their doctor. You can’t
wait until your baby’s two-month appointment, wait until your
doctor is done examining the baby, then suddenly hit the doctor with
a dozen questions. It takes a good 15 to 30 minutes to discuss vaccine
concerns and options in detail. Us doctors don’t have the time
to do this within the normal amount of time allotted to a regular checkup.
You have to schedule a separate appointment, preferably well before
your baby’s first shots are due. That way you and your doctor
have a nice chunk of time directly devoted to discussing vaccines,
without having to go over all the other questions and concerns of a
normal checkup.
You also need to do your homework ahead of time. You have to read
and study the vaccines and diseases so you are familiar enough with
them to have an intelligent conversation with your doctor. If your
doctor senses that you are educated and know what you are talking about,
he or she is more likely to respect your ideas and be open to your
suggestions.

FYI: Current Vaccine Schedule:
Generation Rescue ran this full-page ad in USA Today 3 days ago, comparing the
vaccination schedule from 1983 to the present CDC recommended schedule. It's pretty
staggering to think that in 1983 10 shots were recommended from birth to
age 6 and now they recommend 36 shots in the same time frame. www.generationrescue.org/pdf/070626.pdf
